Workshops with Jenny Romano an award-winning character doll artist specializing in Polymer clay. Wet felting and needle felting techniques have also been fine tuned to her individual and original ideas.

As a primary school teacher for 36 years Jenny’s talent for imparting her knowledge comes easily. "Now," she relates, "I’m teaching something I’m absolutely passionate about and as I’ve learned from others, now others can learn from me."

Three-day workshop in Polymer clay.
Jenny has adjusted her workshops to meet the need of students requiring more of an individual and one-on-one approach. The workshops originally designed to be done in two days can now be tailored to suit the individual needs of your doll club. Costs for tuition will range from $50.00 to $65.00 per student per day. The use of tools and the Polymer clay will be covered in this fee. Students will be required to supply some basic supplies themselves.
The following courses are suggestions which can be modified to suit.

To make an entire doll.....
Workshop 1…The Head. Create your own original ‘dressed’ head ready to apply to a basic wire armature which has been wrapped, to create the body. A Santa, an elf, an old person, a creature from fantasy. .

Workshop 2….The Hands. In this one day workshop you will make wire hand armatures, wrap with Polymer clay and sculpt finger nails and knuckles. Your finished hands will be tailored to suit the size of the doll being created.

Workshop 3. The Feet…. Legs and shoes. Using Jack Johnson’s method of creating shoes you will explore different shoe types, creating the style to suit your character.
Some pre-course work will need to be done in advance.


One-day workshops
For the doll group who wishes to have a guest artist share special techniques. The following half and one day workshops have been very successful.



A) Polymer shoes. using Jack Johnson’s shoe construction techniques. Also in this workshop you will be given easy instructions as to making your doll free standing. and Hands…. Jenny’s method of making fingernails. $50.00 per person. Materials supplied



B) Character faces. Half-day workshop open to all levels. All materials supplied.. $40 per head. No limit on numbers


C) Making and ‘dressing’ a Santa head. All inclusive workshop $90
“Budget clothing for character dolls”. Simple and easy techniques to dress your doll. From second-hand store items, Jenny will show you how to create sweaters from socks, leggings from jocks, make hats and bags from scraps. Techniques will be covered in drafting basic patterns to fit your doll. Wet Felting techniques will be addressed incorporating yarns and threads.. And many more……

Wet-Felting
…. A one-day workshop.

Make a small bag suitable for reading glasses, mobile phone, remote control etc. from carded, hand dyed, Australian Merino fleece. Using Polymer clay create interesting adornments. Jenny has made moulds of her best faces to make this an easy project. No experience necessary. Tuition costs; $40.00 materials $15.00

Needle felting….
A two-day workshop
.
With a few felting needles and a variety of colourful hand dyed carded fleece, learn how to construct a 12" character doll. Tuition costs. $180 per person.
Materials $25.00.
A one day 'assessory' workshop, is $80 which includes 5 felting needles and the wool. A two day 'character' workshop, all inclusive is $150.00
