Last summer’s Star of Wonder pin doll swap was a great deal of fun. Eight members participated and a total of seventeen pin dolls were swapped. This was my first ever pin doll swap, both as a participant and as a pin doll co-coordinator. I had a blast and learned a great deal. I was awed by the craftsmanship in these tiny pieces and the generosity of spirit that these ladies showed by being so giving of their time and creativity.
We had cloth dolls, a wooden doll, felted dolls, and dolls of polymer clays. We had everything from dolls with star faces to a "I wanna be a Rock Star" doll. The variety was truly amazing.
Dolls came from all parts of Ontario, one from Alberta and three pin dolls came from Australia. Participants were Nicole France Ladoucer (Ottawa, ON), KayC Adams (Carp, ON), Joanna Head (Alberta), Roberta Russell (Kemptville, ON), Jackie Graceffo (Brampton, ON), Katuma McLaughlin (Ottawa, ON), Peggy Wilson (Ashton, ON), and Lyn Huggins (Australia). Comments received back from participants were very positive. The general theme was that everyone was happy with the pin dolls they received and they can't wait to participate in the next pin doll swap. (Sorry we missed out on last winter's pin doll swap, but everyone was working so hard on so many things that the info didn't get out on time!) SOOO!!!!!
.....the theme for this next pin doll swap is FAIRIES! Why? Because I saw an excellent film called "Fairy Tale a True Story". The tale of two little girls who confounded the world when they took photographs of fairies in England around the time of the Second World War.
Ever since I have wanted to make a pin doll fairy. Related little folk such as gnomes, leprechauns, elves and so on are of course most welcome. Think gossamer wings, delicate limbs, as well as pudgy, fat children fairies, the tooth fairy, Christmas elves, pointed ears and flowing hair. The deadline for registering will be Aug. 1st, 2008 with pin dolls to be sent by Aug 15th, 2008.
This should give everyone time and yet it will be over before the pre-Christmas rush. Also look for a pin doll swap to be held next winter (PROMISE!), deadlines in February.
When registering please provide your mailing address, your CDAA membership number and email. Remember you can send from one to three dolls, they must be 6 inches or less and a Cheque of $7.00 is required for shipping and handling. To register contact:
