Fairies Summer - 2008 Pin Doll Swap |
||||||||
by Joanna Head, Pin Doll Swap Co-ordinator For the chronically busy, deadlines are very useful things. If it wasn’t for pin doll swaps and the heavy responsibility I have as pin doll swap co-ordinator to have an even number of pin dolls to trade, I very much doubt that I would have put chisel to basswood this summer and come up with a reasonable face for a fairy. Yet, I did and I was very thrilled with myself for doing so. I now want to carve faces non-stop which of course won’t happen until the next pin doll swap deadline. Five other enthusiastic souls joined me in this latest swap and a total of ten fairy pin dolls were exchanged. There was an exquisite beaded fairy from Diana Bennet (Guelph, ON), a very original peacock feather fairy and a whimsical golden fairy sculpted from polymer clay by Marion Fraser (Millgrove, ON), a pair of delightful cloth Rag Fairies from Katuma McLaughlin (Ottawa, ON), a breathtaking multi media wire sculptured fairy from Wendy Rinehart (Orillia, ON) and a trio of very soulful and sweet fairies from Nicole France Ladouceur (Gloucester, ON). Two others were signed up for the swap but family commitments prevented them from participating. They both expressed a desire to participate in the next swap which will be ....... Olympic Dreams Pin Doll Swap. Now that the summer Olympics is over we can start dreaming about the next Olympics which will be the Winter Games in Vancouver. Your pin dolls can be practicing their favourite sport such as skiing, figure skating, hockey or luge, or dreaming about medals or ....... I can’t wait to see what CDAA members come up with. The deadline will be announced in the next newsletter, but it will be after Christmas and well before the Convention. Happy Dollmaking! ~Joanna Head
