When/why did you start making dolls? I got interested in polymer clay in June 2006 and was immediately overwhelmed by its versatility. I created my first art doll and was absolutely hooked.
WWhen did you begin making original one-of-a-kind dolls, and why? My first experience in making one of a kind art dolls is very closely connected with my experience with polymer clay. I came across the dolls created by other artists and became extremely inspired. After trying to work with it, I was amazed how easy it was to work with it (no special equipment required).
What type/style of dolls do you make? I create mostly fantasy figures. I love classical sculpture as well as fantastical shapes and I do incorporate that in my artwork. Sometimes I get carried away and exaggerate shapes which take me to a completely different dimension.
What media do you use? I mainly work in polymer clay, air-dry clay and cloth/fabric but do like to experiment with other media.
What do you consider to be "special" about you dolls? Probably those interesting shapes and characters that got stuck in my memory from childhood have found their way into polymer clay. My enormous love of arts has begun to realize itself in this wonderful medium, which lets me "shape" my imagination and create something unique.
I have been privileged to have won a First Place 2007 Annual Prosculpt Competition at Jack Johnston’s website in the beginner category. The name of the piece that won is "Moonride", 14 inch polymer clay doll.
What are your goals as a doll maker? I see myself sculpting for the rest of my life, on a professional level, being able to have my own business and one day share my experience through teaching.
