When did you begin making original one-of-a-kind dolls, and why? I discovered that making character dolls was a wonderful way for me to bring many of the "colorful characters" I've met to life in a whimsical way.
What type/style of dolls do you make? Character dolls of all ethnicity and any time period.
What media(s) do you use? Cellu-clay paper mache, cloth, mixed media
What do you consider to be “special” about your dolls? I try to capture a "moment of time"-a frightened child with her teddy bear or ladies enjoying a laugh after church. I try to preserve these moments using paper clays.
What are your goals as a doll maker?I do not attempt to capture realism, instead, my goal is to give each doll a unique expressive quality which transcends mere decoration.
Tell a little about yourself: Born and raised in Connecticut, I attended Parsons School of Design in NYC and received a BFA in Fashion Design. As a fashion designer/illustrator I have traveled world-wide including Paris and Hong Kong. Using my skills garnered from the industry, I hand paint and dress the dolls in highly detailed, hand sewn costumes.
