When did you begin making original one-of-a-kind dolls, and why? My dolls have always been oridginals one of a kind dolls. If I have to make the same thing over again I get borred! Art needs to grow and in my case that meens reinventing my art one piece at the time.
What type/style of dolls do you make? Some call them narrative sculptures Some saw in them archetypal figures. Most people find it hard to place trhe dolls,Are they dolls or sculptures? I hear that all the time. Sometimes I use rawhide, real clay. My main medium is creative paperclay.
What do you consider to be “special” about your dolls? I like to play with proportionsIf the hands head and feet are in proportion you can do any thing with the body. My figures often have elogated body's, pale skin (weater they are ethnic or not) I colour them with watercolour pencils, and mostly I minimize clothing.
What are your goals as a doll maker? My goal is to evoke emotions, in the viewer with my work. I am working on marketing but mostly to get my work into gallery's and being taken seriously as an artist being a dollmaker! I know that is not an easy task.
Tell a little about yourself: I am dutch, I have been living in Canada since 86.I live on Cortes island and I am a single mother of 3. Beside dollmaking I am a painter (walls and paintings!) Bellydance teacher and performer, costume designer and maker, yogateacher. And if I have to I work as a constructionworker, housecleaner and whatever I can do to make a living.
